Riders – ARK is a non-profit charity group.  We are a group of friends brought together
by our common interest of riding motorcycles.  Over the years we have spent a lot of
time and money helping various charities raise money doing rides, raffles, etc.  We
decided to start our own charity.  The name Riders-ARK stands for “Riders” because
we all enjoy riding motorcycles and because our home base is Riders In the Country;
“ARK” stands for Acts of Random Kindness.  We noticed there were a lot of charities
for children at Christmas, but one group seemed to be forgotten.  Our main focus is to
provide Christmas for the elderly in nursing homes.  We have been working primarily
with two nursing homes.  We provide gifts such as clothes, pajamas, perfume, clock
radios and other small personal items.  This is our third year and we hope to add
another nursing home this year.  We all get together with “Santa” to deliver the gifts at
Christmas.  This is always a special time, to see the joy and excitement on their faces.
They really appreciate the gifts, but even more I think they just enjoy having us visit
with them.

We have also helped several families with special needs throughout the year.  We have
helped raise money for families affected by serious illnesses or tragedies.  We have
provided food, heating oil and gifts for a young family down on their luck.

We have a lot of fun with our various fundraisers and all the hard work is worth it, to be
able to help those less fortunate or just bring a smile to someone in a nursing home!
